Overview
Two-stroke machines carry no oil in a sump. All the lubrication the engine ever gets arrives dissolved in the petrol, which is why the fuel has to be mixed and why a two-stroke run on straight petrol seizes almost at once. This is the oil that goes into that mix.
Five hundred millilitres is the size for someone with more than one two-stroke machine or one that works regularly: a brush cutter on a shamba, a chainsaw, a petrol hedge trimmer, a backpack mist sprayer. It makes up a useful quantity of fuel without being so large that the bottle stands half used for a year. Mix it in a clean can rather than in the machine's tank, shake the can, and use the ratio your engine manual specifies. Make only what you will use within a few weeks, because mixed fuel goes stale and gums up a carburettor. A blocked jet from old fuel is the most common reason a two-stroke machine will not start after standing.
