Green Pyramid Lawn Sprinkler

The pyramid sprinkler is the simplest thing you can put on the end of a hose. It is a small three sided base with holes across the top that throws a fine spray in a circle around itself. There is no motor, no gear, no oscillating arm and nothing to wear out, which is why this design has outlasted most of the clever ones.

It suits a lawn in a compound, a flower bed, a vegetable patch, a nursery bench or a newly seeded strip of grass that needs a gentle soaking rather than a jet. The low profile is the point. A sprinkler that sits flat does not fall over when the hose is dragged, does not need a spike pushed into hard ground, and can be left running while you do something else. Move it every so often and a large lawn gets covered in stages. On seed or young seedlings the fine spray matters, since a hose held by hand washes seed out of the soil and flattens what has already come up. For a watchman or a gardener watering in the early morning, it is the tool that lets one person water a compound without standing there holding a pipe.
