Overview

Thirty litres is the size a working site or a busy workshop needs. A 12 or 20 litre machine is fine for a household or a fitting job, but on a plastering, block cutting, joinery or vehicle repair job it fills up and someone spends the afternoon walking to the drain. A bigger tank means fewer stops.

Wet and dry means the same machine takes both, which is what separates a workshop vacuum from a household one. Sawdust, cement dust, chippings, broken glass, shavings and swarf go in dry. Water from a burst pipe, a washed floor or a flooded store room goes in wet. A domestic vacuum cannot do either safely. A machine like this usually sits in the corner of a workshop on its wheels and gets pulled out at the end of every day, and at 1 500 Watts it has the motor to be used that way rather than for the occasional tidy up. It is the size to buy if you are already emptying a smaller vacuum more than once a job.
