A random orbital polisher is the safer way to polish paint. The head both spins and orbits, so heat does not build in one spot the way it does under a rotary machine, and the pad is far less likely to burn through on an edge or a body line. For a panel shop, a car wash that details, or anyone bringing back a faded bonnet, it is the machine that lets a less experienced hand get a good finish without damage.

Being cordless matters more here than on most tools. Polishing means walking around a vehicle, moving from a roof to a sill to a door, and a lead that drags across wet paint picks up grit and marks what you have just finished.
