Overview
The heaviest line in the range, supplied as a two kilogram spool. At 3.5mm this is for large brush cutters and for ground that is genuinely hard work: thick stemmed weeds, old standing grass, scrub regrowth and the boundaries of plots that have been left for a season or more.
Mass at the tip is what does the cutting in that material. A thin line flexes away from a woody stem and wraps around it, while a heavy line keeps going through. The machine has to be built for it, though, because swinging 3.5mm takes real engine power and the head has to have eyelets sized for it. On the right machine it means fewer passes and much longer between reloads. A spool rather than a loop is the natural way to buy it, since anyone using this gauge is working often enough that packaged loops would be a nuisance and an expense.

What machines take 3.5mm line?
Large brush cutters with eyelets sized for it. A smaller machine cannot feed it and will overheat trying to swing it.
How does it compare with 3mm?
It carries more mass at the tip, so it pushes through thicker stems, but it also demands more engine power and wears the eyelets faster.
