Overview
A cow pregnancy test strip is a quick, on-the-farm test used to determine if a cow is pregnant—similar in concept to a human pregnancy test. It uses a lateral flow strip to detect pregnancy related hormones.
How It Works: Sample Collection: Collect a milk or most commonly a urine sample from the cow.
Test Application: Place a few drops on the strip using the dropper provided.
Reaction: If the hormone (pregnancy-associated glycoproteins) is present, it binds to antibodies on the strip.
Result:
* Two lines = Pregnant
* One line = Not pregnant
* No lines or unclear result = Invalid test
Advantages; Easy to use: No professional / vet needed.
Quick results: Often within 10–20 minutes.
Cuts costs: Useful for small or remote farms.
Testing too early (Before 28 days) could result in a false negative—the cow may be pregnant, but the test won’t detect it yet. It is most accurate when it is performed at least 28 to 30 days after the cow has been bred (mated or artificially inseminated)
NB: Can’t detect twins or exact fetal age.
