Overview
A turbo or rotating nozzle is the most aggressive setting a pressure washer has. It spins a pencil jet in a cone, so it strips moss, algae, old paint and ground in dirt far faster than a fan nozzle. The price of that is splashback. Used close to a wall or a slab, a turbo nozzle throws water and whatever it has just removed straight back at the person holding it.
The guard is a skirt that fits over the nozzle and rides against the surface. It keeps the spray inside the cone and sends it out at the base rather than back up the lance, so you can work close in without wearing the job. That matters most on a wall you are cleaning before painting, on a garage floor covered in oil and dust, and on any surface where the dirt coming off is something you would rather not have in your face. It also holds the nozzle at a consistent distance, which gives a more even result.

What does a turbo guard do?
It surrounds the nozzle and keeps the spray from bouncing straight back at you, which lets you work close to a wall or a floor with a turbo lance.
Does it make the jet safer for paint?
No. A rotating jet still cuts and marks. Test it on a small corner first before working across a whole surface.
