Overview

A 480mm cut is a serious working width. This is the mower for a large compound, a school or church ground, a guest house lawn or a plot where a small machine turns an afternoon into a whole day. The four-stroke OHV engine has the torque to keep the blade turning through thick or slightly long grass rather than bogging down in it.

The deck is rigid steel, which survives the stones, roots and edges that break a plastic deck. Four individual swing blades cut rather than a single fixed bar, and swing blades give way when they strike something solid instead of bending the crankshaft. That is worth having on ground you do not know well. Cutting height is set by a single lever through eight positions at 20, 25, 35, 40, 50, 55, 65 and 75mm, so you can top rough grass high and then come back lower for a finish. The 60 litre box means long runs between emptying.

Is it self propelled?
No. It is a push mower. At 27kg it takes real effort on a slope, so consider the ground before choosing this size.
What are swing blades?
Four separate blades that can swing back when they strike a stone or a root, instead of transmitting the shock into the engine.
