Overview

A contractors saw is the machine a joinery shop builds its work around. It rips boards to width, cuts sheet to size, squares stock and repeats the same dimension all day against the fence. Everything else in the shop is faster and more accurate once there is a proper table saw in the middle of it.

The table is cast iron with extension wings on both sides, and that is the reason this saw weighs 150kg. Cast iron is flat, it stays flat, and the mass under the blade is what stops vibration reaching the cut. A pressed steel table on a light frame cannot do that. The rip fence clamps at both ends, so it stays parallel to the blade under a push, which is what keeps a rip cut from closing on the back of the blade. The 1 800 Watt motor turns a 254mm blade at 3 450 revolutions a minute and cuts 80mm deep at 90 degrees, dropping to 57mm with the blade tilted to 45 degrees. Table height is 950mm. A dual castor system drops in and out with foot pedals at the front and rear, so a 150kg machine can still be moved across a workshop floor by one person.
