Overview

A table saw is the centre of a timber workshop. Ripping boards to width, cutting sheet material down, squaring stock and sizing components all happen here, and the accuracy of everything that follows depends on it. This one is a 1 800 Watt machine on a stand, which puts it between a site saw and a heavy workshop machine in both size and capability.

The 254mm blade turns at 4 500 revolutions a minute and cuts to 80mm deep at 90 degrees, which takes most structural timber in one pass. The table is a large aluminium casting at 700 by 465mm, and a flat table is what makes a straight cut possible at all. The side fence runs the full length and locks quickly, and the mitre gauge adjusts for angled cross cuts. Blade bevel is adjusted through a gear transmission rather than by hand pressure, so the angle is set accurately and stays where you put it. The stand has anti slip rubber feet, which matters because a saw that shifts under a long board is a saw that pinches. A push stick is supplied.
