Overview

A cut-off saw is the machine that cuts steel to length. Angle iron, square tube, round pipe, flat bar, rebar and channel all get sized on one of these before anything is welded, and in a fabrication shop, a gate maker, a grille workshop or a garage it runs all day. It cuts square and repeatably, which is what a grinder with a disc does not.

The 2 200 Watt motor drives a 355mm abrasive wheel at 4 300 revolutions a minute and it is built with overload capacity, because cutting steel loads a motor in a way that timber never does. Capacity is the figure to check against your work. At 90 degrees it takes round pipe up to 130mm and square section up to 120 by 120mm, and at 45 degrees those drop to 115mm and 107 by 107mm. The guide plate adjusts 45 degrees left and right, so angled cuts for frames and corners are set on the machine. A quick lock and release vice clamp holds the work and lets you change pieces without winding a handle through its full travel. The base is heavy pressed steel and a spark diversion guard keeps the stream away from you.
