18V Cordless Brushless Hand Planer, 12mm Rebate

Cordless planing suits fitting work rather than workshop work. Easing a door that binds, trimming a frame on site, adjusting a window casement, taking a few millimetres off a batten in a roof space: these are jobs where you are already carrying a tool up a ladder or into a house without power, and where a lead is one thing too many.

The brushless motor is the reason this model matters over a brushed cordless planer. With no carbon brushes wearing away inside, the supplier states 70 percent longer life along with more power and more run time from the same battery. On a cordless tool that draws as hard as a planer does, that difference is the one you feel. The front shoe is aluminium, which stays flat and adds no unnecessary weight, and a flat sole is what decides whether a planed edge comes out straight. A retracting rear stand holds the cutter clear of the surface when you set the tool down, so it does not mark the work you have just finished. It rebates to 12mm.
