18V Cordless Planer, 82mm Width, 8mm Rebate, 16 000rpm

A cordless planer earns its place on fitting work. Doors that bind on a humid week, window casements that have swollen, frames that need easing, battens that are a millimetre too wide: all of these happen in a finished house where trailing a lead through the rooms is a nuisance and there may be no working socket nearby anyway.

It plans 82mm wide, which is the standard size and covers a door edge in a single pass. The cutting depth is 1.5mm, which is shallow by workshop standards and appropriate here. Cordless planing is about accurate removal of a few millimetres rather than taking a board down in bulk. The rebate capacity is 8mm. A retractable kickstand holds the cutter off the surface when you put the tool down, so it cannot mark a finished door. The front base is aluminium, flat and light. Dual deflection ports on the left and right let you throw the shavings away from where you are standing, which keeps a room usable while you work in it.
