The random orbital action is what makes it worth having over a plain orbital sander, because the pad turns as well as orbits and that stops the swirl marks that show up the moment a gloss coat goes on.

A one third sheet pad at 187 by 90mm means you cut an ordinary sheet of sandpaper into three, so the consumable cost is small and you are not tied to a special disc size. Ten thousand orbits a minute with variable speed control lets you drop the speed for paint and varnish, which clog and melt at full speed, and raise it for bare timber. The adjustable front handle is more useful than it looks, because guiding a sander with two hands keeps it flat and stops it tipping onto an edge and digging in. A dust bag keeps the work visible and a lock on button saves holding the trigger. Sandpaper and the bag are supplied.
