Overview

A mid sized mains trimmer that covers most of what a compound needs. Five hundred and fifty watts and a 300mm path handle lawn grass and the coarser growth along fences and paths, and the auto feed takes away the one job everybody finds irritating.

With an auto spool you do not stop and tap the head. The machine feeds line out itself when it is needed, so the cut keeps going. The head pivots through five positions and the aluminium shaft is telescopic and rotates through 180 degrees, which turns the trimmer into an edger: drop the wheel onto the path and run a clean straight edge along the grass without guessing. A metal plant protector keeps the line off the flowers and the bark you did not want stripped. The auxiliary handle adjusts for angle so vertical cuts along a wall are comfortable, and the whole machine weighs 2.3kg.

Questions and answers

How does the auto feed work?
The spool releases line by itself as the ends wear back, so you do not stop to tap the head. It does use more line than a bump feed.
Can it edge a path?
Yes. The shaft rotates through 180 degrees and the wheel support runs along the path, so you can cut a straight edge along the grass.
