Overview

A small mains trimmer for ordinary grass. It is the machine for a house with a lawn and a few edges, a compound path, the strip along a fence, or the grass around a shop front that needs tidying every couple of weeks.

Three hundred watts is not much power, and that is the point: at 1.25kg it is light enough to use in one hand around obstacles, and it costs little to run. The head spins at 13000 revolutions a minute on 1.2mm line, which cuts soft grass cleanly and quickly. The loop handle has a textured surface for grip, and the bump feed releases more line with a tap on the ground when the ends wear back. Replacement line should be 1.2mm or 1.4mm, and using the right gauge is what keeps a small motor from labouring. Within its limits it does a neat job and does not tire the person holding it.

Questions and answers

Will it clear an overgrown plot?
No. At 300W with a 220mm path it is made for lawn grass and light edging. Thick growth needs a larger trimmer or a brush cutter.
What replacement line does it take?
Ryobi 1.2mm or 1.4mm trimmer line. Heavier line will not feed through the head and puts extra load on the small motor.
