A hand planer is what you reach for when a door will not close, a window casement binds in the frame, or a piece of timber is a few millimetres too wide for where it has to go. It takes material off a surface or an edge far faster than a hand plane and leaves a flat face behind, which is why every carpenter and every fundi doing fittings carries one.

The 650 Watt motor turns the cutter at 16 500rpm across an 82mm width, which is the standard size and covers the edge of a door or a board in one pass. Cutting depth adjusts up to 2mm, and the useful setting is usually far less than that. Take a shallow cut and go back over it rather than trying to remove everything at once, because a deep pass tears the grain and leaves a wavy surface. The front base plate is aluminium, which stays flat and does not distort the way a pressed steel base can. The handle has a soft grip for control over a long run.
