Overview

Thirty metres takes this beyond a single room. It will run the length of a house, a workshop, a shop front or a boundary wall, which makes it the size most people settle on if they are measuring for a living rather than for one job. Press the button and the distance is on the screen, with no tape to hold at the far end and nobody to hold it.

The useful part is that it does the arithmetic. Measure two sides and it gives you the area, add the height and it gives you the volume. That is exactly what you need when quoting paint, tiles, plaster or a ceiling, and it removes the step where somebody multiplies wrong in a notebook. Accuracy is plus or minus 2mm, which is tighter than the 20 metre model. It reads in metres, feet and inches, so you can work in whatever unit the drawing or the merchant uses. Two AAA batteries are supplied, and at 0.12kg it lives in a pocket.
