Overview
A set of eight multi-purpose bits, which is the sensible way to buy them. Single bits get bought one at a time for one job, and then the next job needs a size you do not have and the work stops while somebody goes to town.
A multi-purpose bit is ground to cut through a change of material in the same hole. That is the situation in most Kenyan buildings: plaster over block, tile over screed, timber battens fixed into mortar. With ordinary bits you drill through the first layer, stop, change the bit, and then fight to keep the second bit on the same centre. With one bit you drill straight through. Having eight sizes on hand also means you drill the hole the plug actually needs rather than the nearest size you happen to own, which is what makes a fixing hold. The case also keeps the bits together, which is how a set stays a set instead of becoming five loose bits and a gap where the size you need should be.
