Universal Trimming Head for Line Trimmers

The head is the part of a trimmer that takes the punishment. It is dragged along walls, dropped on stones, packed with wet grass and tapped on hard ground a few hundred times a day, and eventually the eyelets wear through, the spring gives up or the bump mechanism stops releasing line. Rather than replacing the whole machine, or leaving it standing in the store, you replace the head.

A universal head is made to fit a range of machines rather than one model, which is useful in a store that keeps several trimmers from different years, or where the original part is no longer easy to find. It is also the usual way to bring an old machine back into service after the head has been knocked apart on a stone. Fitting is a straightforward job on most trimmers: the head unscrews from the drive shaft, usually with a reverse thread, and the new one goes on in its place. Once it is on, you load it with the line gauge your machine is rated for and carry on cutting.
