A chop saw for steel. This is the machine a fabricator, a gate maker or a construction yard uses to cut angle iron, square tube, rebar, channel and solid bar to length before welding. You clamp the stock in the vice, pull the head down, and the cut is done in one movement rather than three passes with a grinder.

The 2 200 Watt motor is sized to be leaned on. Cut-off saws stall when the disc binds in heavy section, and the extra power is what carries the blade through a thick wall without the speed collapsing. A 355mm blade running at 1 500 revolutions a minute gives the rim speed that abrasive cutting needs. The base is pressed steel and heavy on purpose, because a light base walks across the bench under the load. The guide plate swings for cuts from zero to 45 degrees, which covers mitred frames and corner joints. A spark diversion guard throws the stream away from the operator and the spindle lock holds the arbor still while you change the disc.
