A bench sander is where a workshop stops sanding by hand. You bring the work to the machine instead of pushing a sander over it, which means ends get squared, curves get faired and small parts get shaped in seconds rather than minutes. For a joinery shop, a school workshop or anyone making furniture, doors or fittings, it is the machine that does the fitting work between the saw and the finish.

Two abrasive surfaces cover different jobs. The 100 by 914mm belt runs at 450 metres a minute and takes long edges, faces and stock removal, and it can be set horizontal or used as a flat platen. The 150mm disc at 2 850 revolutions a minute is for ends and precise angles, because the table in front of it pivots from 0 to 45 degrees and a mitre gauge is supplied, so a mitre can be sanded exactly to a line rather than trimmed on a saw and hoped for. The induction motor runs quietly and does not have brushes to replace. A cast iron base takes the vibration out, which matters because a light sander walks across a bench.
