Overview

This is the trimmer for a compound hedge, a garden boundary or the shrubs around a house, where there is a socket within reach of an extension lead. It starts on a switch, makes no smoke and needs no fuel mixing, which is why most households end up with an electric machine rather than a petrol one.

The 500 Watt motor drives a 410mm blade at 1 650 strokes a minute. Dual action cutting blades move against each other, so the growth is sheared rather than torn, and the cut heals better and browns less. Seventeen millimetres is the thickest stem it will take, which covers ordinary hedge growth and the year's new wood. At 2.8kg it is light enough to hold above shoulder height for the top of a hedge without your arms giving out. The guard in front of the handle is transparent, so you can still see the line you are cutting to. An electric brake stops the blades quickly when you release the switch, and a blade brake plus a double action safety switch back that up.

Questions and answers

Does it need an extension lead?
Yes. It is a mains machine, so you need a socket and a lead long enough to reach the hedge. Keep the lead behind you while cutting.
How thick a stem will it cut?
Up to 17mm. It is made for ordinary hedge growth and new wood, not for old thick stems.
