Overview
A bench top drill press for a workshop that drills metal as well as timber. The cast iron housing is the reason it is heavy and the reason it drills straight: mass absorbs the vibration that makes a light machine chatter and wander off the mark.
Sixteen speeds is what separates it from a basic press. Steel wants a low speed and a steady feed, brass and aluminium want something different again, and a large hole saw in timber wants slower still. Running everything at one speed is how bits get burnt and holes come out oversized. The motor mount pivots, which keeps the belt tensioned correctly and makes changing speed a quick job rather than a fight. There is an adjustable locking depth stop for repeat holes, a built-in light over the work and a standard three jaw chuck. The spindle stroke is 170mm, table to chuck is 350mm, and the machine weighs 40kg.
