Overview
A bench drill for holes that have to be square to the work and repeatable. Hand held drilling wanders, and on steel plate or a hardwood joint that shows immediately. Clamped on a bench, this machine puts the bit down at ninety degrees every time and to the same depth every time.
The 710W induction motor runs quietly and holds speed under load better than a brushed motor. Speed is set in two mechanical gears with step-less adjustment inside each, so you can drop to a low speed for a large bit in steel and take it up for small holes in timber. The digital display shows the drilling speed and the depth, which turns repeat drilling into reading a number instead of counting turns of the handle. A laser guide marks the drilling point and an LED lights the work. The chuck takes 1.5 to 13mm, the throat is 118.5mm, and the aluminium base plate has a vice clamp with a parallel guide. There is a hinged chip guard over the chuck.

How far from the edge can it drill?
The throat depth is 118.5mm, which is the distance from the column to the centre of the chuck. That sets how far into a piece of work you can reach.
Does it need to be bolted down?
Yes. At 9.5kg it must be fixed to a solid bench. A drill press that shifts when the bit grabs is both inaccurate and unsafe.
