Overview
A reciprocating saw is a demolition and pruning tool rather than a joinery one. Cutting out an old window frame, chopping through a nailed pallet, taking down a tree branch over a compound wall, cutting a steel pipe in a wall, opening a hole in a roof truss, or cutting scrap to fit a skip. The blade sticks out in front, so it reaches into places nothing else gets to.
The 28mm stroke is what does the work. A long stroke uses more of the blade on each pass, which clears the cut and keeps the teeth cool, and 2 800 strokes a minute gets through 180mm of wood faster than any hand saw will. The blade clamp opens without a spanner, which matters because on demolition work you change from a coarse wood blade to a metal blade several times an hour, often with the saw held one handed. The front grip is adjustable, so the saw can be turned to cut vertically or into a corner without twisting your wrists. Both handles are rubber covered, and there is a lock-on switch for long continuous cuts.
