Overview

A bench sharpener for chainsaw chain. Hand filing works, but it depends on the operator holding the same angle on every cutter, and that is where most chains go crooked. This machine sets the angle once and grinds every cutter the same, which is what you want if you run several saws or sharpen chains for other people.

The chain clamps in the built-in vise, which adjusts to all saw chain designs and pitches. Rollers move the links forward while the vise stays where it is, so you index one cutter at a time without resetting anything. The table vise tilts 35 degrees to the right or left for the cutters facing each way. It bolts to a bench, a wall or a vise, and it needs to be fixed down properly because a machine that moves gives an uneven chain. The 85W motor turns the 108 x 3.2mm wheel at 5 700 min-1 off a normal 230V socket.

Does it fit any chain?
The built-in vise adjusts to all saw chain designs and pitches. The wheel supplied is 3.2mm thick, and a chain of a different pitch may need a different wheel thickness.
Does it need to be bolted down?
Yes. It is made to mount on a bench, a wall or a vise. If the machine can move while it grinds, the cutters come out uneven and the chain will cut crooked.
