Overview
A sharpening kit for chainsaw chain in the 3/16 inch file size. Chain does not wear out so much as go blunt, and a blunt chain is the reason most people think their saw has lost power. The kit lets you put the edge back where the saw is working instead of carrying the chain to a bench.
The difference is easy to see. A sharp chain throws square chips and feeds itself into the cut with only light pressure from you. A blunt one produces fine dust, smokes, and has to be pushed, which overheats the bar, stretches the chain and loads the engine. Sharpening is a habit rather than a job: a few strokes on every cutter each time you refuel, all at the same angle, and the saw stays honest all day. A chain that is sharpened often outlasts several that are run blunt and then thrown away.

Questions and answers
How do I know if I need 3/16 or 5/32?
It is set by the chain, not by the saw. The chain or its box states the file diameter. If you are unsure, tell us the saw model and the chain marking and we will check.
Will sharpening by hand really work?
Yes, if you keep the same angle and the same number of strokes on each cutter. Uneven sharpening makes the chain cut crooked, which is the usual sign of a rushed job.
